Thursday, October 30 2008 -- October 28, 2008, Basel, Switzerland--- It is official: Roger Federer will be playing for Switzerland against the United States in the upcoming Davis Cup, schedule to be held on March 2009. The first-round series is scheduled to be held from March 6 to 8 at a US venue that is yet to be chosen by the US Tennis Association. The decision to join Davis Cup did not seem to be too difficult for the Swiss pro, since his next stop right after the Cup would be California for the Indian Wells tournament, scheduled on March 9-22.

Federer announced his plans for the Cup on his website, saying, “"I am excited to once again join my fellow Swiss teammates, who I have a great friendship with. I look forward to what I am sure will be a tough weekend." Swiss officials were also happy about the decision, knowing that the 13-time Grand Slam singles winner’s participation will surely increase their chances at winning. Federer previously helped bring Switzerland back into the Elite Group after he defeated Belgium at last month’s Davis Cup World Group play-offs with doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka.
