Wednesday, October 22 2008 -- Former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar David Beckham is set to join the Italian and European giants AC Milan in January 2008.

Beckham has been playing for the Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy since the end of the 2007-2008 season in which he played an instrumental role in Real Madrid's La Liga title conquest.

He signed for the American side in a deal that was reportedly worth $250 million over five years. Beckham's tenure at LA Galaxy has been somewhat mixed so far.

Former Italian and European champions AC Milan have now revealed that they have agreed a deal to sign Beckham in January 2008. The England international right sided midfielder shall arrive to the red and black half of Milan in January when there is a break in the MLS.

Beckham shall play for Milan on loan for until the end of the 2008-2009 campaign and Milan then have the option to sign him on a permanent contract.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said:

"Beckham wants to train and play with Milan.

"We want him. He will arrive in January and we will sign him for the rest of the season.

"It's not just a shop window deal, it's a great deal. He will be available for Ancellotti for Serie A and the UEFA Cup.

"Football today is not just about tactics and technical abilities. It's about full stadiums and sponsors. No-one can beat the 65,000 fans we had on Sunday.

"The stadiums will only fill up with superstars like Beckham who has asked Milan for hospitality, not another club.

"With him, Kaka and Ronaldinho, it will be a dream team."
