Saturday, October 18 2008 -- It looks like Dallas Cowboys starting QB Tony Romo will not take the field in this week's contest. Romo, who injured his pinky on his throwing hand in last week's game, did not take snaps during the team's Friday practice.
Instead, backup Brad Johnson is scheduled to start in his stead. Johnson has been in the league since 1994, playing with five different teams. He’s thrown 164 touchdown passes and 117 interceptions, garnering a rating of 83.5 and a completion rate of 61.8%.
Romo practiced with the team on Thursday, noting after some critics said that he lacked toughness that he'd rather play than stand on the sidelines. But it has been reported that the Dallas Cowboys star quarterback was unable to grip the ball properly and could not control it properly. There are additional concerns, including that Romo's injury could be exacerbated in a game.
Still, Cowboy's owner Jerry Jones said in a radio interview that he would "love" to see his star compete against this week’s opponent—the St. Louis Rams. Romo's injury should be fine in about a month.
In the meantime, QB Brooks Bollinger is listed as second on the Cowboys’ depth chart for this week while Romo is third.
