Tuesday, October 14 2008 -- October 11, 2008, Moscow – One of the top tennis players, Jelena Jankovic, has made it to the final of the Kremlin Cup through a victory against the defending champion, Elena Dementieva. Facing her third final in three tournaments, Jankovic is set to face Vera Zvonareva, who sits on seventh place.
To get where she is, Zvonareva defeated Dinara Safina in a game that consisted of 6-2, 7-6 (5) – making it an all-Russian semi-finals.
So far, Jankovic has won titles back-to-back at the China Open and Porsche Grand Prix. She is more or less aiming to gain her fourth title for the current season. If she wins the final, it will be her ninth win of her career. Before this, she was a runner-up at two events – in the U.S. Open and Miami. So far, Jankovic has defeated Zvonareva in the last two tournaments where they fought against each other.
As for her impending face off against Jankovic, Zvonareva recalls some details of their past encounters, and she said, “We had a tough three-setter in Beijing and we had two tiebreakers in Stuttgart. I learned some things from both matches and we’ll see if I can implement them tomorrow.”
We can be sure that once these two top ranking players face each other, tensions will rise and a good game is surely at hand.
