Tuesday, October 14 2008 -- Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has once again strokes the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer talks by saying that signing the 23-year old Portuguese winger is a top priority for his club.
In the summer Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move to sign Ronaldo from reigning Premiership and European champions Manchester United. Real president Ramon Calderon was very much eager to sign Ronaldo and was willing to part with around 90 million euros for the Portuguese international.
But Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded Ronaldo to stay on at the Bernabeu and the links cooled down. But they have resurfaced now as Schuster has insisted that signing Ronaldo would be a huge boost for the club.
The German told the British tabloid The Sun:
He has to be my No 1 priority. I’ll expect Real to do everything in its power to bring me Cristiano.
"Now if United want €90m then that’s what we’ll pay. You offer less and you won’t get him. I’ll be asking the club to pay what United want."
