Monday, October 13 2008 -- October 8, 2008, Philadelphia – The final decision whether Aronimink Golf Club will host Tiger Woods’ AT&T National for 2010 and 2011 will occur next week on October 15, 2008. It has taken nearly a year for Aronimink board members and the officials of the Tiger Woods Foundation to come to terms whether the Philadelphian golf club will host the 2010 and 2011 Tiger Woods’ event.
The Aronimink Golf Club, designed by Donald Ross, has been annually ranked as one of the top golf courses in the United States. This would not be the first time that Aronimink Golf Club will host a major event. In fact, the Aronimink Golf Club was host to the 1962 US PGA Championship, the 1977 and 1997 US Junior Amateur and was most recently host to the 2003 Senior PGA Championship. Philadelphia in general has been home to US PGA Tour events from the years 1963 to 1980 and 2000 to 2002. It has been nearly six years before Philadelphia would be home to another major golfing event.
According to Greg McLaughlin, tournament director and the Foundation’s executive director, the outlook of next week’s vote seems very favorable. One Aronimink Golf Club official was also excited of the prospect of hosting the Tiger Woods’ AT&T National and even stated that they have been eager to host another major golfing event. The coming of this proposal to host the 2010 and 2011 Tiger Woods event came just in time.
