Tuesday, October 7 2008 -- Italian World Cup winning captain and defender Fabio Cannavaro seems to be in the twilight of his career and has hinted that he would rather hang up his boots at his hometown club of Napoli.
Cannavaro, currently at Spanish and European giants Real Madrid, has been in indifferent form ever since he arrived to the Spanish capital from Italian powerhouse Juventus in the summer of 2006 after lifting the World Cup in Germany with Italy. He is getting old and is not guaranteed of a starting berth in the Real Madrid side under coach Bernd Schuster.
Cannavaro's agent, Gaetano Fedele, has stated that his clienti is eager to return Napoli in Naples, the club where he started out, and would like to contribute to the club's recent resurgance in Italian football. He said:
"Napoli are an option for Fabio now," said agent Gaetano Fedele. "The Partenopei need great players to take them to the next level. Certainly he is still under contract with Real Madrid, but afterwards we will see what happens.
"If he doesn't renew his deal with the Spaniards, he will be free to go where he wants. Napoli are a club full of great young players, but they could get even better with an experienced player like Fabio helping them."
