Venus Williams on the Rise Once Again

Sunday, October 5 2008 -- October 3, 2008, Stuttgart, Germany – For some, playing against Dinara Safina can be intimidating enough to affect their game. To Venus Williams, however, Danira was not a threat. Venus handled the Russian with ease and defeated the world number 3 tennis player with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Venus Williams could not be intimidated by Dinara Safina. She came into the event with 37 career titles and seven Grand Slam championships, far from what Safina has achieved. During the 77 minute match, Venus never faced a break point. She took the lead in the first set and even led 4-0 in the second set.

With Safina out of the picture, Venus will be facing world number 2 Jelena Jankovic in the final four. Jelena Jankovic will be giving Venus quite a game in the next match. In order to enter the final four, Jankovic beat Vera Zvonareva. Coincidentally, Jankovic already defeated Zvonareva in the Beijings semifinals just one week before.

While some may say that Venus has yet to display more action in this event, Venus has already given it her all in the Wimbledon. There, she was able to defeat Serena Williams, her sister, to claim the title for the fifth time.
