Sunday, October 5 2008 -- October 2, 2008 – John Daly plans to be a PGA European Tour star next year.
Daly told The Associated Press last Thursday that he is considering his options for next year. This includes regularly playing on the European Tour. Daly says, “I know in Europe there are still a million opportunities to play… It’s a great tour. Guys on that tour have shown themselves and proved themselves to be great players.”
The players on the European Tour may have been playing great; however, the same cannot be said regarding Daly’s play.
Daly, at 42 years, has made just five cuts in 16 events held this year. This brings in just $56,017. So far, his best finish for the year was a tie at 40th place when he participated at the Viking Classic. As a result, his ranking dove down to No. 737 in the world ranks. He has not made an appearance at top 10 for three years running. In addition, his erratic behavior has cost him the support that made him one of golf’s most popular players.
He blames his struggles on a rather mysterious rib injury which forced him to somewhat shorten his iconic swings. As a result, Daly – considered to be one of the Tour’s biggest hitters – was rendered punchless.
