Thursday, October 2 2008 -- Brazilian international and Werder Bremen playmaker Diego has opened a can of transfer worms by admitting that he wants to play in the Italian Serie A in the near future.

Speaking on Wednesday, the former Santos superstar admitted his admiration for the Italian game and also hinted that he would like a move to Italy when he eventually decides to leave Bremen.

Diego started his career at Brazilian giants Santos where he became a superstar along with Robinho. He was then signed by Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto but was unable to recapture his old form in Portugal and was transferred to German giants Bremen.

It is at Bremen that Diego has resuttected himself but it seems that he wants to enhance his career and so would prefer a move to the Italian Serie A.

"Was I close to joining any of the Italian clubs last summer? There was contact, but I have a contract with Werder and now I think only about my club," Diego told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Would I like to play in Serie A one day? At Bremen I am fine, but in future I'd love to play in Serie A."
