Italian international defender and World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro has been ruled fit to play on Tuesday. The central defender has been suffering with injury problems since the start of the season and although he had recovered last week, Real Madrid coach Bernd Scuster decided to rest him for the weekend's Spanish league match against Real Betis in Seville.

Although Cannavaro has been reinstated in the squad, it is unlikely that he would start the match against a strong Zenit side on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid playmaker Wesley Sneijder has been ruled out of the match. There were certain news reports earlier last week that Sneijder, who had injured himself in a pre-season match against Arsenal and has been absent since, could return as early as this week against Zenit but Schuster has decided not to include him in the squad that he takes to Petersburg on Tuesday.
