Tiger Woods will be missed at the 2008 Ryder Cup

Sunday, September 28 2008 -- For the first time since 1972, the Ryder Cup won’t have any current major champion playing on the American team. Speculations on whether Tiger Woods would actually appear at the Ryder Cup, to be held at the Valhalla Golf Club, has ended as Tiger Woods confirmed that he had no intention of coming. The closest that Woods can get to see the Ryder Cup is in front of his television set. However, despite his absence, he wholeheartedly offers to lend a hand if needed. The captain of the US team, Paul Azinger, has a copy of Woods’ phone number.

Though it’s not yet sure how the US Team will fare in the Ryder Cup without Woods, his help, if sought would be a big help for the team. Tiger Woods has a record of 10-13-2 in five of the Ryder Cups he has appeared in. The reason for Tiger Woods’ absence is due to needed recuperation and rehabilitation of his newly operated knee.

Woods has admitted that he hasn’t watched much golf since he was in surgery so he is not quite sure how much of service he can be to the US Team. Nevertheless, he offers his full support and wishes the American team well.
