Monday, September 22 2008 -- Monday, September 22, 2008 -- Two of four teams that are heading to the semi-finals of the WNBA playoffs have now been selected.
The New York Liberty beat the Connecticut Sun, 66-62, ad the San Antonio Silver Stars beat the Sacramento Monarchs 86-81 in overtime.
Liberty vs Sun
Essence Carson scored 15 points for the Liberty, Shameka Christon had 13 (including a crucial three-pointer late in the game], and Janel McCarville put in 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Liberty to their first appearance in the East Conference finals since 2004.
For the Sun, Lindsay Whalen put in 19 points and Asjha Jones, 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Silver Stars vs Monarchs
The Monarchs overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime, but the Silver Stars needed an extra overtime period to beat the Monarchs.
Sophia Young scored 27 points for the Stars, and was helped out by Becky Hammon who put in 14 points. Ann Wauters contributed 15.
For the Monarchs, Nicole Powell scored 21 points and Kara Lawson added 16 points and seven assists.
