Monday, September 22 2008 -- In the English cricket team Michael Vaughan is being succeeded by Kevin Pietersen as captain. Regarding these changes Vaughan is of the opinion that these would not lead to any sort of pressure on Pietersen. It is a fact that these two have a good relationship and Pietersen played a role due to which the selectors offered Vaughan a central contract in spite of his bad form in the recent matches.
Vaughan’s statement
While speaking with the Sunday Mirror Vaughan explained that there would be totally no problem if he plays under Pietersen. He would not become a hurdle in the plans of Pietersen. He added that some people feel that it is slightly awkward if the ex-captain is in the side but he doesn’t feel so. Also he was certain that Pietersen would not feel his presence as a problem. When Nasser Hussain was succeeded by Vaughan, Hussain was a player in the team and Vaughan felt it a little strange to have Hussain in the field watching the plans of Vaughan. However this feeling wasn’t in any way a problem. With Vaughan as captain and Hussain as player England played 11 Tests and out of these won six and lost three.Recent performance
Due to the defeat at Edgbaston where South Africa sealed the series against England Vaughan gave up his captaincy. In the last Test at The Oval in August he chose to stay out. Thus Vaughan has not till now played under Pietersen. In the recent Tests he played in six innings and had an average of 9.33 runs. The one day series was won by England 4-0 however Vaughan did not participate in these matches.User rating
