Monday, September 8 2008 -- The 7 feet tall center of Los Angeles Lakers Andrew Bynum declared that he was absolutely healthy and was looking forward to be better than the past during the training camp that is scheduled to start on 30 September.
At the Lakers practice facility Bynum attended a news conference where he revealed that his knee was in perfect condition, he was doing well, his training was resulting in him becoming stronger and overall he was 100 percent fit to perform.
On 13th January the Lakers defeated Memphis by 100-99. In the third quarter of this match Bynum briefly dislocated his kneecap and bruised a bone in the knee. Hence he was to be sidelined for 2 to 3 months. Further the plan was changed and he was sidelined for the total remaining season. On 21st May arthroscopic surgery was performed on him where some cartilage debris was removed and a few rough spots beneath the kneecap were smoothened.
Recently Bynum worked for a month in Atlanta with former NBA standout Gerald Wilkins and Sean Zarzana his personal trainer. Then he moved on to Southern California where he replied that his fitness was better as compared to the previous summer. He was able to lift more weights and his times on the track were better. He had become stronger and although his weight was the same at 285 pounds he had less body fat.
Bynum disclosed that he was looking forward to working with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar the Lakers legend again in the coming season.
