Friday, August 29 2008 -- Friday, August 29, 2008 -- The Seattle Mariners pulled out a close game on Friday night, defeating the Cleveland Indians 3-2.
Raul Ibanez was responsible for all three of the Mariners' runs. In the first inning, he singled home Ichiro Suzuki, and in the 3rd inning, he homered with Yuniesky Betancourt also on base.
The Indians, who had a 10-game winning streak going, only managed to score 2 runs, and were shut down by Mariners' closer J.J. Putz in the 9th inning.
Mariners' catcher Kenji Johjima continues to struggle at the plate, going 0-4, as did center fielder Wladimir Balentien.
The Mariners are merely playing for pride right now, or playing for spoilers, although Ichiro is still working on getting his 200 hits this season.
