Tuesday, August 26 2008 -- Monday, August 25, 2008 -- The Seattle Mariners took it to extra innings on Monday night, defeating the Minnesota Twins 4-2 when Adrian Beltre hit a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 11th inning off reliever Jesse Crain.
When a team is 30 games under .500, there's not much to cheer about, but the Mariners celebrated as if they'd won the Pennant. The Mariners are playing spoilers right now - they knocked the Minnesota Twins out of first place and put the Chicago White Sox in first place in their division.
Ichiro went 1-for-5, and he also threw out a critical run at the plate in Delmon Young in the 4th inning.
The Twins had a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning, but an error by shortstop Punto opened the door for Joe Nathan to blow his 4th save of the season, and the Mariners tied the game. Then, in the 11th, Adrian Beltre won it.
