Sunday, August 17 2008 -- According to the rumour mill that is gearing up in England, England international striker Michael Owen could just switch clubs this summer. Owen is currently at Premiership side Newcastle United but according to rumours in the British press, he could be on his way to north London.
It is actually like putting 2 and 2 together and making it four, this piece of Michael Owen jigsaw puzzle. Owen is supposedly disgruntled at St. James' Park as he wants a contract extension with an improved pay package. Owen's contract at Newcastle United expires at the end of next season and although both club and player are eager to see through a new deal, no one is satisfied with the contract negotiations that have been carried out so far.
Reports now suggest that north London side Tottenham Hotspur side could swoop into the hotbed. Spurs are short of attacking options after the departure of Robbie Keane to Liverpool and with Dimitar Berbatov increasingly looking to add himself to the Manchester United books, Spurs manager Juande Ramos is looking to cover that hole.
Reports now link Owen with a move to Spurs. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker is injured at the moment, just as he has been for most of the last three seasons, and although it is unlikely that he would join another club before the end of next season, Spurs might as well try their luck.
