Saturday, August 16 2008 -- Friday, August 15, 2008 -- Ichiro Suzuki went 0-4 today, as the Seattle Mariners were beaten, badly, by the Minnesota Twins, 9-3.
Ichiro's lack of a hit tonight isn't really news...although he's hitting over .300, it's just barely, and it really looks like he's not going to come close to getting 200 hits this season.
The Mariners have certainly had a rough season. They'd had high hopes and expectations at the beginning of the season, having added a new ace, Eric Bedard, but Bedard wasn't impressive to begin with and went on the DL, and the team's bats started out poor and have never really picked up.
One of the anchors, first baseman Richie Sexson, was dropped overboard a few weeks ago (recently picked up by the New York Yankees, he was waived yesterday). Sexson signed a huge contract and his batting was always a disappointment for the Mariners.
Catcher Kenji Johjima's year has also been abysmal when it comes to his batting average. Frankly, all of the Mariners are having a terrible time at the plate. Only Ichiro and Jose Lopez are batting over .300, with Raul Ibanez just behind them, admittedly, but the rest just aren't getting it done.
