Wednesday, August 13 2008 -- 'Wednesday, August 13, 2008 -- The Minnesota Twins with one of the lowest payrolls in the Major Leagues, beat the New York Yankees, who have one of the highest payrolls, 4-2 today.
The Yankees were without Derek Jeter, who has a foot injury. Not that that necessarily would have made a difference. The Twins are playing excellent baseball right now, with a record of 65-53.
The Yankees had an abysmal start to their season, put together a pretty good run, but are currently "slumping" (having gone 3-7 in their last 10 games) and are now, after this loss, 64-57.
The Twins avenged yesterday's loss to the Yankees, with the help of a home run by Delmon Young.
Meanwhile, Alex Rodriguez couldn't get it done for the Yankees. Rodriguez still doesn't do well in pressure situations. His average with two outs and runners in scoring position is .204, in 49 at-bats.
