US Women to open Olympics on August 6

Monday, August 4 2008 -- The UD Women's National Soccer team has been in China for over a week now, becoming acclimitized to the climate and the time change, and getting in practice on the field.

They will play their first game on August 6, beginning before the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics (because of the length of the tournament and the number of teams).

Their opponent will be Norway. The US team and Norway are quite familiar with each other, having played two times already this year.

All 12 women's teams will be in action on Wednesday, and television coverage will be extensive, from the Soccer Channel, MSNBC and Universal HD.

Pia Sundhage is the coach, taking the reins on November 13, 2007.
