Saturday, August 2 2008 -- Friday, August 1, 2008 -- On Thursday, Manny Ramirez was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates sent Jason Bay to the Red Sox.
There's been a lot of discussion on who got the better deal, and most people think it was the Pirates, who got outfielders and pitching prospects for Bay.
But fans of the Boston Red Sox may be forgiven for thinking that they got a pretty good deal.
In his first game in a Red Sox uniform, Jason walked in his first AB, was HBP on the second... and made two outs...
Then, in the bottom of the 12th inning, he came through big time with two out, hitting a triple. He then scampered home when Jed Lowrie beat out a soft grounder past the pitcher. (So Jed deserves hero status as well!)
Jason got a warm welcome from the fans. There was quite a roar when he came up for his first at bat. The Red Sox fans and his teammates are ready to embrace someone who is willing to play...and it looks like Jason's that guy.
